Although
I now live in the quiet 'burbs of Melbourne with my
wonderfully supportive husband, Joe, and our 2 children, Samantha and Declan,
I was brought up in the far reaches of Australia.
I was born in Darwin in the tropical north and have also lived in north west
Queensland (you can't get more Outback than that - even the flies avoid the
midday heat), Alice Springs and Adelaide. Oh yeah, and there was a short stint in
Bangkok, Thailand. All those warm climates means I have an aversion to Melbourne's winters.
I went to Monash University here in Melbourne and graduated with an Arts degree which meant I was qualified to do absolutely nothing, so I added a Graduate Diploma in Information Services (basically a fancy name for librarianship). After an entire 10 months working in a library, I switched professions and became a technical writer. And yes, it is as boring as it sounds.
For several years now, I've written fiction in my spare time. I dabbled at first with short stories and a few novels and finally realized a few years ago that I wanted to write romance, or a sub-genre of it. After a few attempts at category/series, I discovered I didn't have the 'voice', so I tried stand-alone (known as single title). I wrote several contemporaries but had no luck getting published. Then I switched to historicals, the genre I most love to read. My first attempt, BLACK JACK SNOW, was so much fun to write. It practically spilled onto the page. I also began to receive positive responses from competition judges and my fabulous critique partners, the Lulus. I'll definitely write more in this time period.
If you feel inclined, please drop me a line at carolyn@carolynscott.com I'd loved to hear from you.
